The Eyelashes: A Little Extra Help

False eyelashes can create drama and impact that mascara alone can't impart. They make natural eyelashes appear longer and thicker. Oftentimes, falsies are used even if the natural lashes are plentiful for special occasions like parties, photographs or the Oscars! Here are some great tips on the types of eyelashes you can wear and how to wear them.

Types of False Eyelashes

Natural or synthetic.
Synthetic fibres are more affordable and easier to find. Natural fibres tend to last longer, however and look more natural.

Strip or Individual
Strip falsies are easy to apply but can also appear very "artificial." Generally, the most dramatic lashes, like brightly coloured lashes or feathered lashes only come in strips. Individual lashes can add drama and mystery to the eye; try applying a few to the outer corner of your eyes.

Colour
Do you natural look or to create a special effect? During the day usually brown lashes are better than black. If you're going out on the town, there are no rules!

Makeup Tips

  1. Apply false eyelashes AFTER you use eyeliner. Eyeliner liner is difficult to apply on top of false eyelashes, especially if you use liquid.  Place them very close to the eye or directly on your lashes.
  2. Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara AFTER you have applied false eyelashes. This allows the false eyelashes and your natural lashes to blend together more naturally.

Removing False Eyelashes

If you have used waterproof adhesive, use an eye cream or petroleum jelly. Otherwise, use warm water or normal makeup remover. Do this with care because you can pull off your own eyelashes by mistake! If you are having trouble, put on an eye cream and wait a few seconds or try using tweezers. If you clean your eyelashes well, then you can save them and reuse them later!

More Tips

  1. Never sleep with false lashes. This can cause eye damage or infection.
  2. Wearing false eyelashes takes patience, time and expertise. You might not get the results you want the first time, but practice makes perfect!
