Cleansing

Before applying makeup, one should always make sure one's face is clean. There are different ways you can cleanse your face. Clinique has some really good mild face soap. Personally I prefer cotton pads and Garnier's cleansing range, which is quite gentle on the skin but effective. There are lots of face-cleansing products out there and it really is a question of trial and error, according to your skin type. Clinique figure out what your skin type is and then recommend their products accordingly.
Now remember, good girls should always remove their makeup before going to bed. Bad girls should too, or they may get spots, which kind of spoil the bad girl image! I understand you'd be reluctant to clean your face at 3am after a night on the town but the simple solution is face wipes. Quick, easy and effective. You now have no excuse to leave your makeup on!

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the process by which old skin cells fall off to leave behind lovely new ones which make your skin look smooth and fresh. Though this is a natural process, it can be helped by various exfoliates. Firstly, face masks. I highly recommend face masks as they are fun to do with friends and a great way to relax. They leave your skin feeling fresh and smooth and you feel rejuvenated. If you want a more regular exfoliation, then get a face scrub cream according to your skin type. There are also chemical exfoliates out there but I wouldn't recommend them as they tend to be quite harsh on skin.

Spots

Having personally suffered a very spotty teenage hood (and even now when I'm older still get the odd spot or two). Unfortunately, some people are just more prone to spots and blemishes. Research suggests it's not because of a bad diet but rather a hereditary thing. Fortunately spots tend to flare up less as you grow older. Until then, keep your face clean and use cleansers and exfoliates for problem skin, like Clearasil. Try not to touch your face too often as this aggravates the spots and spreads more germs into them. Products like Tea Tree Oil and specialized creams are good for drying out spots.

Moisturising

It is important to moisturise your face, especially if you have dry skin. Moisturiser should be chosen according to skin type. It should be applied after cleansing and exfoliating, but before your makeup. It makes your skin supple and means the makeup won't sink into your pores and disappear.
